چکیده

-A structure refinement of kaolinite made using the Rietveld neutron profile refinement technique has given non-hydrogen atom positions which were not significantly different from those given by B. B. Zvyagin in i960. All of the hydrogen atoms have been located; the three inner-surface hydrogen atoms are involved in interlayer hydrogen bonds with lengths of 2.95(4), 2.95(4), and 3.06(4) ]k with O-H . . . O angles of 168(4) ~ 144(4) ~ and 146(4) ~ respectively. The inner hydrogen atom is located in a position consistent with that found earlier in dickite and muscovite which are the only dioctahedral layer silicates studied by neutron diffraction to date. The O-H vector makes an angle of 34 ~ with the (001) plane, away from the octahedral sheet, and the projection of the vector on to (001) is at ~30 ~ to the b axis. Key Words--Crystal structure, Hydrogen, Kaolinite, Neutron profile refinement, O-H vector, Rietveld method.

All-atom ab initio energy minimization of the kaolinite crystal structure

Calculations that minimize the energy and optimize the geometry of all atomic coordinates for two proposed kaolinite crystal structures were performed using a first-principles, quantum chemical code based on local density functional theory. All calculations were performed using published unit-cell parameters. Innerand interlayer H atom positions agree well with those determined by Bish (1993) f...

Rapid determination of hydrogen positions and protonation states of diisopropyl fluorophosphatase by joint neutron and X-ray diffraction refinement.

Hydrogen atoms constitute about half of all atoms in proteins and play a critical role in enzyme mechanisms and macromolecular and solvent structure. Hydrogen atom positions can readily be determined by neutron diffraction, and as such, neutron diffraction is an invaluable tool for elucidating molecular mechanisms. Joint refinement of neutron and X-ray diffraction data can lead to improved mode...

Joint X-ray and neutron refinement with phenix.refine.

Approximately 85% of the structures deposited in the Protein Data Bank have been solved using X-ray crystallography, making it the leading method for three-dimensional structure determination of macromolecules. One of the limitations of the method is that the typical data quality (resolution) does not allow the direct determination of H-atom positions. Most hydrogen positions can be inferred fr...

On the Order-Disorder Phase Transformation of Anilinium Halides. III. High Temperature Phase Crystal Structure of Anilinium Bromide, C6H5NH3®Br. An X-ray and Neutron Diffraction Study

The crystal structure of the high temperature phase of anilinium bromide, CeH5NH3®Br , was studied by X-ray and neutron diffraction at T = 343 K . The refinement supports disordered positions of the —NH3® group. A split-atom model is proposed which includes disorder of the benzene ring. The thermal parameters, hydrogen bond distances, and other experimental data (NMR, N Q R , inelastic neutron ...
